For Couples Who Are In Love With Each Other…..And In Love With Alaska.

Most of my brides are looking for a fun, talented, wedding photographer who can help keep the day stress-free! Who captures the storytelling, emotional, and beautiful images that that tell the story of your day.

If that is you, then you are in the right place! I am based out of Palmer, Alaska; however, if you are getting married somewhere else in Alaska, Hawaii or Washington I can travel.

I specialize in creating connected, colorful, authentic imagery.

CLIENT LOVE….

I just wanted to say that it was a blast having you for our photographer. Both Stephen and I's previous wedding experiences left us not looking forward to the "draining experience" of doing all the photos and only hoped we'd have a little energy left over for the rest of the day. However, much to our pleasure we had a total blast doing it and didn't feel tired or stressed and perfectly enjoying trying to come up with witty comments. It was fun and relaxing. Thanks to you we are able to say that we very much enjoyed every single minute of our wedding day.So much fun!:)

We absolutely loved our wedding photos from Christal Houghtelling Photography; they are amazing! She captured the emotions so well and made us so comfortable-it was best photo shoot we’ve ever had. We love her candid style and the interactions that she captures in the moment are priceless! Very professional and easy to work with. She knows what she’s doing and knows how to make any special moment memorable. We recommend her to anyone.

Q & A

WHY ARE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS IMPORTANT?

Over time I have realized that engagement photos are part of the whole process. Most people are not used to, or comfortable being in front of the camera. Engagement photos allow you to get to see how I work, and understand the process for your wedding day. That being said, on the wedding day I am much more hands off.

HOW LONG DOES THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION LAST?

I like to schedule the shoot to last for roughly 2 hours. Starting a couple of hours before sunset, and ending just after sunset.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE OUR IMAGES?

It generally takes 2-3 weeks for the editing of the images to get complete. After that we will schedule to time to see them.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT’S BAD WEATHER WHEN WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE SESSION?

If it is an extremely bad wind then we will reschedule. If it is raining on and off we will move forward. In the winter time I do not like to schedule sessions below 10 degrees, but if it’s snowing we can work with that as long as it’s not super thick. Some of the most beautiful images are created in bad weather.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Dress for the season. Bring a change of clothing…maybe a more casual outfit, and a more dressy one.

Again dress for the weather with shoes, and bring a couple pairs. Something that you can hike in, and then change into fancier works.

Avoid choosing colors that will blend into the landscape such as black, dark green, and navy blue. White and red are beautiful with the landscape. Please no neon colors, tiny stripes or logos.
